Volunteer Job Descriptions

**Point value is per shift, which is a whole meet, unless job states otherwise.  

Concessions Lead (home meet only)

The concessions lead will be the point person in concessions, leading other concession volunteers, handling money, keeping inventory, replenishing items when needed and shopping and keeping concessions items.

Point Value- 1.5


Concessions Pick Up (home meet only)

The concessions pick up will help with picking up concessions from Concessions lead and deliver to the Lakehouse at the beginning of the meet. There is also a position for loading concessions after the meet and delivering to the location the concessions lead had determined. **This position requires some heavy lifting and preferably a large vehicle or truck.

Concessions Volunteers(home meet only)

The concessions volunteer will help selling and preparing concessions food and assisting concessions lead in the duties required. Shift A will help with set up, Shift B will help with tearing down.

Deck Guard(home meet only)

Maintains General order, including keeping the deck area free from non-swimmers.

Point Value- 1


Hospitality (home meet only)

Delivers waters to all volunteers, home and visitors and periodically will check with them if they need anything.

Point Value- 1


Parking Patrol(home meet only)

The parking patrol will direct traffic and monitor the parking lot during the meet. LMST will provide and orange safety vest. This position will be patrolling the parking lot and surface streets around the pool to identify and report parking issues to the Board during Seals home meets.

Console (certification required)

The console position will sit at the computer table to monitor timing system and keep score at the meet.

Point Value- 1.5


Referee (home meet only & certification required)

The Referee is responsible for holding a meeting before the meet begins with all officials (timers, judges, etc...) and coaches to review meet procedures. The Referee will be at the finish line to observe the finish and check with stroke and touch/turn judges for disqualifications. The referee also keeps the meet running smoothly and quickly. Must attend league sponsored clinic prior to working this position.

Starter (home meet only & certification required)

The Starter is called the announcer as and will be calling each event and heat on a loud speaker. The Starter will be responsible for charging false starts to swimmers. The starter will use a starting device, and only whistle in the event of a device failure. Must attend league sponsored clinic prior to working this position.

Floater

This position will assist in volunteer check in before each shift. Afterwards, you will "float" during the shift and "fill in" as needed for open volunteer slots or volunteers that need a break.

Head Timer

The Head Timer times each race with two stopwatches. If a seated timer has an issue with their stopwatch, the head timer will exchange it for one of their working stopwatches.

Ready Bench Parent

The Ready Bench parent is responsible for getting all the swimmers in your group together and lined up in the correct order at the start end of the pool for their races. Need to arrive 30 minutes early to pick up heat sheets and notify the coach 15 minutes before meet begins of any swimmers that have not shown up.

Ribbons

The ribbon table will receive time cards from scorekeeper, call out the team name and give them the appropriate place ribbon.

Runner

The runner collects timing slips from timers and circle middle time. Give time cards to scorekeeper.

Set Up

Assists in setting up all equipment before meet begins .

Point Value- 1


Tear Down

Assists in breaking down all equipment and cleaning up at the end of the meet.

Point Value- 1


Stroke Judges (certification required)

The judge will stand at poolside and watch swimmers for incorrect strokes. Must pay close attention and attend league sponsored clinic prior to working this position.

Touch/Turn Judge(certification required)

The judge will stand at poolside and watch swimmers for incorrect touch and/or relay exchanges. Must pay close attention and attend league sponsored clinic prior to working this position.

Point Value- 1.5


Tent Parent

In charge of either the girls or boys of a specific age group at a meet. Responsible for keeping them together while waiting for their events and make sure they are lined up in order according to heat sheet.

*This is a whole meet shift to avoid confusion from swimmers.  6 and unders only swim half the meet. Tent parents are done when they are done swimming after backstroke.

Timer

The timer will sit at the end of the pool and record swimmer's times. You need to arrive 30 minutes before the meet begins to get your stopwatch. You will attend a timer's meeting with the Meet Director/Referee.

* 8 will be needed if away pool has 8 lanes
